How might we unlock the full potential of National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) data?
The National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) programme team from Government Digital Service (GDS) will attend the festival with a prototype service called NUAR Channel Enhancements (NCE). This is an enhanced service allowing access to NUAR data from your existing computer systems (via an Application Programming Interface or API). NCE would allow your IT systems to retrieve generalised and detailed asset data directly from NUAR and could be combined with your own or publicly-available datasets to provide new insights and potentially a wide range of new uses.
We invite you to join us and be one of the first groups to explore how you could use this new service, a follow-on development of the NUAR project which was conceived at the 2018 Innovation Festival. Imagine the value of combining NUAR data with other available data sources, both external and your own, to help solve big infrastructure problems.
Challenge
It’s no secret that DSIT’s NUAR Discovery project has been exploring Unlocking NUAR’s full potential: opportunities ahead – Geospatial Insights. Seven potential enhancements to the NUAR service have been put forward and DSIT have been listening to the reactions of asset owners and others. But which of these areas would unlock the greatest value? Which are low hanging fruit? Which would result in improved service to customers and members of the public? And are there compelling reasons to consider any additional use cases for NUAR data? At this sprint we will consider these and other key questions, identifying those cases worthy of further deep dives.
The Innovation Festival presents a unique opportunity to come and have a go on the NCE prototype service, to work with the team to create demonstration applications and receive feedback from the ultimate users of these.
