How might we disseminate our robotics projects in a collaborative way to overcome common barriers to innovation in robotics/autonomy projects?
This sprint is taking place at Newcastle Racecourse 7 - 10 July
Challenge

Robotics projects, particularly those attempting autonomy in a hostile and remote environment, are notoriously difficult and risky…and yet, the reward/risk equation drives us to take on the challenge.

The thing is, many of the challenges we encounter in individual projects are common to all autonomy/robotics projects.  This is even more true within pipeline industries where the objectives of navigation, inspection and repair within a remote confined space are so similar.

Its common practice to show and tell at the end of the project but if we were to share frequently as projects progress, particularly the problems we are struggling to overcome, a greater set of minds could bring diverse and new thinking to overcome, what are probably, common challenges.

What will we do?

This sprint will hear from a variety of autonomy/robotics projects that are either completed or in flight.  We’ll hear progress and about perceived and actual hurdles/barriers.  Some projects will also ask for help and your thoughts on particularly hard-to-crack problems.  Your suggestions could help these projects to accelerate and we may come up with generic solutions and approaches to common challenges.  Whether you’re a technical guru, a practical problem solver or simply passionate about robotics and autonomy – come and learn and help advance pipeline robotics.

  • Lightning Talks: Hear from robotics/autonomy experts on successful struggling projects
  • Research: Hear from researchers on their particular fields of work
  • Team Collaboration: work together to crack current robotics blockers
  • Stakeholder Group Formation: Build on our robotics community
Target Objectives
  • Overcome specific challenges facing live robotics project teams
  • Build valuable new relationships with others working on similar projects
  • Raise awareness of your specific projects
  • Disseminate learnings from Ofwat Water Breakthrough Challenge in-flight robotics projects
Target Audience

This sprint is open to anyone interested in robotics and autonomy in any sector, especially those prepared to share their projects.  It would appeal to:

  • Water companies looking to adopt robotics into operations
  • Utilities companies and local authorities engaged in robotics projects
  • Academics working in autonomy and robotics
  • Engineers working on robotics and autonomy
  • Smart technology companies
  • Students and early-career professionals
