As an award winning social enterprise providing employment for young ex–offenders in watercourse and horticulture services, and the UK lead for World Cleanup Day, Skill Mill is aiming to get a record number of people involved in a day of action to highlight and tackle the global waste problem and build a new and sustainable world.

This daily dash is taking place at Newcastle Racecourse 13 July

World Cleanup Day is one of the biggest civic movements of our time, uniting 191 countries and territories across the world for a cleaner planet.

On a single day volunteers and partners worldwide come together globally to rid our planet of trash – cleaning up litter and mismanaged waste from our beaches, rivers, forests, and streets. The day harnesses the power of people to achieve incredible things by joining forces.

Building on strong performance (and record numbers) in 2019 in the UK, we are committed to exploring untapped potential and achieving engagement levels comparable to or exceeding other leading counties.

During this creative dash, we will explore how The Skill Mill can extend its reach and maximise engagement and volunteer numbers across disparate communities, and all levels of society – from citizens to business, to government.

We will also explore links to UN Sustainability Development Goals and explore potential use of Skill Mill resources in achieving this ambitious goal.

The dash will start by building a good understanding of the challenge, before going on to explore different ways to reach out, engage and empower individuals and communities to take action and get involved.

We will then rapidly develop solutions and an action plan that can be executed post-Innovation Festival  and ultimately have a positive and sustainable impact on our planet.
