How can we best collaborate across sectors to harness nature for wide environmental and social benefit and bring to life catchment and nature-based solutions around the River Skerne?

This years work in a week (YWIW) is taking place

at Newcastle Racecourse 11 - 13 July

The River Skerne Catchment, a tributary of the River Tees, is a hotbed of North East environmental activity, with stakeholders shouting out about its potential for new, innovative approaches to designing, delivering and co- funding environmental improvements to address multiple challenges, and the opportunity to use these to provide long term sustainability for land managers.

As an innovation test-bed for the development of catchment and nature-based solutions, we’ll fast track activity in this area through the NWG Innovation Festival 2023. The name Skerne comes from the Norse word ‘Skirr’ meaning bright and shining.

We’ll take inspiration from this to bring bright minds together across the week and consider the north star for collaborative integrated catchment management, agreeing next steps and key actions all stakeholders can undertake to realise success and help move forward towards a shining future.
